Olive’s maternal grandmother was Julia Ann Josephine Van House.

 

By the time of the 1900 census she had 7 children. By 1910 she had had 8 children, 7 of whom still lived. Alice and Roy were adopted before 1910 and were in the household in 1910. Alice 5 yrs old and Roy 3 yrs.

 

According to the Iowa 1910 census (of Louis Groshens), she was born in Pennsylvania. According to both the Iowa 1900 and 1910 census of Olaf Johnson, she was born in New York in 1860.

 

According to the 1880 census, she was 23 which would have given her a birth year of 1857 while both the 1900 and 1910 census's have her born in 1860. Her grave stone has her born in 1850.

 

So much for trying to reconcile “official” data.
