The Pope Ancestors

Earl’s mother Kittie Alice was a Pope with an interesting history. The Pope family has been traced back to John Pope circa 1555 of Chew Magna, Somersetshire, England. Her story is here.

The Popes are of particular interest in that Thomas Pope (1608) married Sarah Jenney who was born on the Pilgrim ship “Little James” enroute to the new world. The Jenney family has been traced back to Thomas De Jenney circa 1260 of Knodishall, Suffolk, England. The Jenney’s have been well researched and available, being one of the Pilgrim families.
